Aus 180 - Charlie Chan

(1.3 stars; 3 reviews)

A Collection of Aussie Radio Shows No 180 This is the Australian Version. Charlie Chan is a fictional Honolulu police detective created by author Earl Derr Biggers for a series of mystery novels. Biggers loosely based Chan on Hawaiian detective Chang Apana. The benevolent and heroic Chan was conceived as an alternative to Yellow Peril stereotypes and villains like Fu Manchu. Many stories feature Chan traveling the world beyond Hawaii as he investigates mysteries and solves crimes.   Disclaimer: By uploading these files, I make no claim to ownership or copyright. These recordings have been acquired from publicly available sources on the Internet, and my goal has been to put together a collection of every available episode where possible. I will add to these collections if I discover new episodes or if any new episodes become available. Additionally, while I tried to put together a collection that contains the best version of each episode that I could, there may be better copies of some recordings available from collectors and dealers, and I encourage you to reach out to them if you are so inclined. If they are not in the public domain, notify me and they will be deleted.

Not much Oz in There...

Agree with the previous review, however: Episode 6 (Charlie Chan in Radio City) is an old Jack Benny radio show spoof. Episode 7 (Charlie[']s Daughter is Kidnapped) may have come from NBC originally, but this version came from AFRS (Armed Forces Radio Service), before it became AFRTS and finally, AFN. Episode 9 (Fiery Santa Claus) sounds like it "might" be the first one to have an announcer from Oz, but it's tough to say for certain. A lot of "pear shaped" tones used by announcers in the day didn't always leave them sounding very Murican either.

most of these are not from Australia

Only the 30 minute episodes (8 total) which state that this is a Grace Gibson production at the very end of the episode are from Australia. All of the 15 minute episodes (11 total) are American, from the NBC network which ran Charlie Chan in 1936 - 1937.
