Eric Marshall is all that a well brought-up young man should be. Handsome, steadfast, and full of ambition, he is expected to expand the Marshall & Company empire -- and to marry a woman suitable to replace his mother in Nova Scotia's finest circles. When a sick friend asks for a favour, becoming a substitute schoolmaster in the Prince Edward Island countryside seems the perfect post-graduation lark. But when Eric wanders into an old orchard at twilight, his life will be changed forever... (Summary by Sarah Jennings)

Reviews

A charming L.M. Montgomery love story

(4 stars)

A short little love story that I mostly enjoyed - I must admit that the men's fawning over Kilmeny's looks was a bit irritating. Compared to Anne Shirley, Kilmeny is a shallow and one-on-one character. Still, I enjoyed the book and the readers.

Pleasant story

(5 stars)

This is a perfect, sweet, old-fashioned tale, great as a little piece of escape from modern life, and told in Montgomery's distinctive style. The narrators are easy to understand and the story is the perfect length for an afternoon's relaxation or a short trip.

Sweet and simple

(5 stars)

Lovely story. :) If you like exciting/unpredictable plots this might not be for you, but if you already enjoy Montgomery's books you're bound to love it. It's a sweet, simple story with a beautiful setting and a somewhat mysterious, fairytale-like air.

Enjoyable

(5 stars)

Although there are several readers, they all have a similar feel and tone to their voice, so this is not disruptive to the story. This is a delightful quick tale on par with one of Anne Shirley’s imaginative stories of her youth.

Sweet & Enchanting

(4 stars)

A darling story of pure love and simple country enchantment! I love Kilmeny and the way she is portrayed... Lucy Maud Montgomery is one of my favorite authors, hands down!! Readers were ok... really love Karen Savage’s voice!!

A lovely romance novel

(5 stars)

Well read by each reader. A good choice for Green Gables fans. This starts out as a series of chapters, but develops into a true novel along the way.

Lovely

(5 stars)

A sweet and heartwarming romance. A bit more dramatic than L.M.M's other stories, but still charming. All of the readers did a good job; I'd definitely recommend this recording.

nicely read

simple and sweet story. a bit unfortunate about how Neil is portrayed and how it is blamed on his race bit that's the time period. Short and sweet!
