Emma (version 7 Dramatic Reading)

Emma is a novel about youthful hubris and the perils of misconstrued romance....As in her other novels, Austen explores the concerns and difficulties of genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England; she also creates a lively comedy of manners among her characters. Before she began the novel, Austen wrote, "I am going to take a heroine whom no one but myself will much like." In the very first sentence she introduces the title character as "Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich." Emma, however, is also rather spoiled, headstrong, and self-satisfied; she greatly overestimates her own matchmaking abilities; she is blind to the dangers of meddling in other people's lives, and her imagination and perceptions often lead her astray. I enjoyed listening to this book although it got kinda long! The only thing I didn't like was that I couldn't understand Harriet's voice. Seriously muffled and a weird accent or what??

Great!

(4.5 stars)

When I physically read the book I was quite disinterested. But these voices and the wat they put it together made this very enjoyable. Harriet Smith's voice was a bit muffled, but still understandable. I definitely recommend this audio book.

Great company on the road

A very good cast reading, although poor Harriet’s voice could barely be made out because of poor sound quality.

very much like the movie Clueless

(5 stars)

the readers do a fine job. jane is a bit hard to understand, so i always had to listen to her parts twice - but she doesnt speak much. this story was clearly the inspiration for the movie Clueless. not many men would enjoy this story, but it is highly recommended for ladies. you will laugh at emma as she thinks things are going one way, and yet nothing works out as she thinks it will. the ending is obvious from the start, but the author is great at telling her story.

Overall this version was excellent. Most of the readers spoke in character with excellent enunciation, except for the Harriet Smith, who was difficult to understand.

Fantastic

(4.5 stars)

The cast aspect added a great dimension, and both narrators were wonderful. Only a few of the voice actors were less than satisfactory. All together, it was very good. The actual story is one of Jane Austen's most humorous and lighthearted. I loved it.

Loved this!

I really enjoyed this reading! Emma and Knightley's voice actors were particularly great, but I was a little put off by Jane Fairfax's horrendous accent. Harriet was exactly as I imagined her in the book (in a good way!) but the mic quality could be a lot better. Outstanding work, everyone!

Disappointed

(0.5 stars)

My favorite Austin ruined. Emma wasn't harsh and snotty and impatient with her Father. I've read this repeatedly and loved it but this Emma ruined it.
