The Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung, also sometimes translated as The Transformation) is a novella by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. It has been cited as one of the seminal works of fiction of the 20th century and is studied in colleges and universities across the Western world. The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed (metamorphosed) into a large, monstrous insect-like creature. The cause of Samsa's transformation is never revealed, and Kafka never did give an explanation. The rest of Kafka's novella deals with Gregor's attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister, who are repulsed by the horrible, verminous creature Gregor has become. - Summary by Wikipedia (2 hr 17 min)

READER: Excellent pace, voices and clarity. Never dull, never unintelligible. I LOVED this reading. BOOK: I thought this was a great work of fiction. I wouldn’t say I understand its intended metaphorical meaning, but I came up with my own and felt it was super applicable.

A classic that I somehow never got around to reading. Thanks to Bob Neufeld for providing the recording. We are not told how or why the main character changes into a large insect. And, really, that detail hardly seems important to the story.

This was a very interesting book, made even more interesting by this amazing reading! The narrator really gets into the characters and has a great intonation. He speaks every word very clearly, and at a great pace, which is very helpful.
