Treasure Island (version 5)

Read by Kara Shallenberg (1969-2023)

(4.7 stars; 231 reviews)

Treasure Island is an adventure novel narrating a tale of "buccaneers and buried gold". Traditionally considered a coming-of-age story, Treasure Island is a tale noted for its atmosphere, characters and action, and also as a wry commentary on the ambiguity of morality -- unusual for children's literature. The influence of Treasure Island on popular perceptions of pirates is enormous, including such elements as treasure maps marked with an "X", schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen bearing parrots on their shoulders. - Summary by Kara and Wikipedia (6 hr 34 min)

Best book of fiction that I know of.

...and you can lay to that! Perfect from one end to the other by one of the most famous writers of the past. I've privately researched pirates, how they dress, the unique way they speak, even how different they are from other parts of the world...Europe, Spain, Arabia, India, even the southern coasts of China. And yet Mr Stevenson knew some of the most terrifying pirates came from England. I had this tale read several times to me as a kid by a 2nd uncle, a priest if you can believe it, then a beautiful hardback novel was given to me as a Christmas gift to which I read with great fervour. However, Mrs Kara Shallenberg, what a stunning job you did in reading the 30+ chapters...fantastic. I've read most of your website & how you manage to find the time to volunteer so regularly & still cope with your chronic condition is beyond me. If I'm ever over your way, I have to propose & get married for sure. Your husband wont mind as I'll keep it strictly platonic & if he doesnt like it I'll let you keep the ring!

Classic tale masterly presented

(5 stars)

The young lady reading was clear precise in her diction and at such a tempo to convey the excitment and adventurous nature of the tale. Thank you and all those who give so generously of their time that we may enjoy so many classic stories. The Authors tho long deceased are no doubt smiling on the other side as future generations are presented with their timeless tales.

I like it a lot.
