Read by Allen Johnson Jr.

(4.8 stars; 31 reviews)

The Blackwater Novels are set in the 1930s along the Blackwater Swamp, near the fictional town of Turpentine, Georgia. Get in trouble with the twins when they shoot green tomatoes in a giant slingshot, and dynamite a toilet with a cherry bomb. Explore the magic and mystery of nature . . . hear the critters in the swamp, sleep in a treehouse, find a hidden grave, and sleep on an island by the embers of a campfire.

Mr. Johnson has a wonderful southern voice that is warm and homely. He is a joy to listen to. The Scribble ads are present in each chapter, and as the chapters are usually short, it makes the ads seem very frequent and can interrupt the flow of the story. If it bothers you, just fast forward a bit to skip ahead. I really enjoy the detailed descriptions of the southern scenery as well as Johnny's boyish mannerisms and the portrayal of the lone swamp dwellingl black man Link as a man of character and integrity when facing racism. The reader does an excellent job of bringing a different voice to each character.

great story, interrupted too much

The story was really good but having every chapter only 10 to 11 minutes and interrupted with an ad that was too long got annoying to the point that I stopped listening to it.

you can skip the commercials easily if you want to, they are the first and last 30 seconds or so of each track. The story is amazing and the reading is also very well done.

Very interesting story would be better if the chapters were combined in the episodes. The chapters are good, but with a small chime between them, many could be looped together.

This story is so good. It moves along flawlessly and has such a pure and beautiful plot. Just the sort of book everyone should read. (Or listen to)

Linc. (Link?) and my second favorite is the mom (whose name escapes me.) Both twins are very fun too, but Link seems like the glue.

Excellent Story

Excellent story and narration. There were too many interruptions. Would be better to combine chapters for longer reading between commercials.
