Nero Wolfe gets a visit from a woman who claims that her boss has disappeared, but Wolfe refuses to help and sends her away, believing she was lying.  Later, Archie investigates her story on his own to discover that not only has the boss returned and expressed interest in hiring Wolfe, but now the woman has disappeared.   Wolfe calls the man in time to hear his murder.
