In Cattle Brands, Andy Adams gathers fourteen short stories from the world of the American cowboy. Ranch life and the open range form the backdrop for encounters with bandits, gunfights, and efforts to recover stolen cattle.

The stories draw on the practical routines and dangers of Western cattle country, where a stolen herd can mean hard riding and a confrontation with outlaws. Rather than following one continuous plot, the collection offers a series of separate episodes centered on cowboy life and the conflicts of the range.

Published in 1906, the book suits listeners looking for early Western fiction in short, self-contained installments, with action rooted in the work and risks of cattle country.

Great Old Tales

This LibriVox volunteer's voice is hypnotic! These tales are not appropriate for young audience members, if you've a Horse crazy child, as there are graphic details of life on the trail.

Xcellent

Great tales narrated by a LibriVox Volunteer of the highest quality.

Great Stories

LibriVox volunteer has a beautiful voice, perhaps not well suited for this book.

wonderful old cowboy tales

Reader was okay, but mispronounced words were annoying.

Very Interesting

Really neat stories. Widely varied. EXCELLENT reader too.

only because of the reader. stories are fun.

Not the voice for this title...

The book is excellent, but this lady's voice is misplaced in this genre. I listened for about 1/2 a minute then had to turn it off. Listen to one of Richard Kilmer's renditions and then listen to this and you'll see what I mean. Nothing wrong with her voice, but it's not meant for westerns written from a man's perspective. In fact, given the appropriate topic/perspective, I would probably enjoy her voice very much.

INTERESTING COLLECTION

The last story was unique. The reader tried, but she needs to read romance novels, not westerns. Your fault, not hers.
