Stoopnagle & Budd, featuring Frederick Chase Taylor (a.k.a. Col. Lemuel Stoopnagle) and William Budd Hulick, were among the earliest pure satirists in old-time radio. They predated notable figures like Fred Allen and Henry Morgan, and their humor often involved poking fun at potential sponsors and showcasing Taylor's talent for Spoonerisms.
This particular episode, a summer replacement for Fred Allen's popular "Town Hall Tonight," showcases their unique comedic style, including absurd inventions and clever wordplay. Despite their talent and respect from the intelligentsia, much of their work has unfortunately not survived. However, this gem remains, featuring regulars from the Allen show, including announcer Harry Von Zell and orchestra leader Peter Van Steeden.
