Father Knows Best
Ed James
Written by freelance writer Ed James, Father Knows Best was a radio and television comedy series that aired from the 1950s to the 1960s. It featured the story of a middle-class American family, particularly focusing on the family's head, Jim Anderson, originally known as Jim Henderson. This character was played by Robert Young.
The radio version started on August 25, 1949, on NBC Radio. Apart from Young, the series also starred June Whitley (and later Jean Vander Pyl) as his wife Margaret, along with Rhoda Williams, Ted Donaldson, and Norma Jean Nilsson as their children Betty, Bud, and Kathy. With General Foods as the main sponsor, Father Knows Best was heard every Thursday evening until its last episode on November 19, 1953.
In 2008, the series had its film adaptation, which starred Tim Allen.
