Set in 1934 in Hanky Park, Salford, Love on the Dole explores the harsh realities of unemployment and poverty faced by the Hardcastle family and their neighbors. As they struggle to survive, Sally Hardcastle finds hope through her friendship with Larry Meath, who envisions a brighter, socialist future. However, they are surrounded by destructive forces that threaten their dreams.

This poignant drama, directed by Pat Truman, features a talented cast including Mary-Jo Randle as Sally Hardcastle and David Schofield as Larry Meath, along with Elizabeth Kelly, Gary Cady, John Samson, and others bringing the story to life.

I appreciate that this is a late 1980s radio play, however this production is completely unfaithful to the book and its message. The cast mostly performed very well, however the misinterpretation is sadly disappointing.
