Henry B James enlisted in the Union Army at the age of 20, and fought in many of the key battles of the Civil War. Thirty years later, he wrote this short memoir, which he begins by saying,, "Mine was not an exceptional experience, only that of many a boy of ’61, but it may partly answer the question so often asked: 'What did the privates do?'" - Summary by Ciufi Galeazzi (2 hr 23 min)

refreshing listen

(5 stars)

the narrator has a very pleasant voice. she does a great job helping you almost feel like you are chatting with the author. but, the refreshing part is it's brevity. I'm a history buff of some depth... especially American Civil War and Native American history (I'm a southerner and a Native American) heck of a mix eh. anyways...most audio books or physical books, I don't read digital books, I listen/read are of all levels. yet they are mostly indepth. so it nice to get a, hopefully, real memoir from someone who has been there and someone who has felt the fears, guilts, and mental anguish of murderous type warfare. bravo, well done

Always good to hear first hand accounts of the civil war. Especially the minor details of life then.

This was absolutely amazing and beautiful. A story not only so real, but felt real through the readers.
