Sir Walter Raleigh was an English soldier, explorer, writer and courtier in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. He helped to found the first English colony in North America at Roanoke.

Raleigh's Poetry was written the straightforward, unornamented mode known as the Plain Style. Most of his poems are short lyrics which were inspired by real events.
