Box 13

Much Too Lucky

English · Mystery & Thriller, Radio, Action & Adventure

Box 13 stars Alan Ladd as Dan Holiday, a mystery writer who places an unusual newspaper advertisement: “Adventure wanted—will go anywhere, do anything—write Box 13, Star-Times.” The replies bring Holiday into contact with people facing strange problems, dangerous schemes, and puzzling situations, giving him material for his stories while drawing him into the action himself.

Each episode unfolds as a self-contained radio mystery, with Ladd’s Holiday at the center and a supporting cast bringing the callers and suspects to life. The series blends detective-style investigation with adventure, often moving from an intriguing premise to a tense confrontation as Holiday follows the clues.

Ladd’s assured, understated performance gives the program a cool, capable lead, while the dramatic sound and dialogue keep the stories brisk and atmospheric. Box 13 offers classic radio suspense with a writer-turned-adventurer whose next assignment can arrive in any envelope.
