Spike Jones and His City Slickers in Santa Monica
por
Chase and Sanborn was a radio variety program sponsored by the Chase and Sanborn coffee brand. This recording features Spike Jones and His City Slickers in Santa Monica, bringing the band’s comic musical style to the broadcast.
Jones and the City Slickers were known for turning familiar tunes into exuberant musical comedy, using unexpected sound effects, novelty instruments, and playful interruptions. Their performances mix recognizable melodies with deliberately chaotic arrangements and broad comic timing.
The result is a lively variety-show experience centered on music and humor rather than a single dramatic story. Listeners can enjoy the contrast between the polished conventions of a sponsored radio program and the band’s irreverent, sound-filled performance.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
