The Valley of Silent Men

(4.5 stars; 230 reviews)

Subtitled: A Story of the Three River Country. James Kent has learned that he is terminally ill with perhaps only days to live, and so decides to confess to a murder and thus save an innocent man. Nobody believes his confession, particularly Marette, a mysterious girl who had shown up at Athabasca Landing only weeks before. Kent’s illness takes a turn and his death is postponed, and he sets about to find out more about the girl, who he ends up falling in love with, although she’ll not reveal her past to him, nor what she knows about the murder. A story of intrigue, suspense, action, and above all, a story of love in the furthest outreaches of the Great White North where three great rivers flow; the Athabasca, the Slave, and the McKenzie, and where somewhere is hidden The Valley of Silent Men. Reviews

A little out of my genre

(3 stars)

I tend to prefer a mystery with more action in it. This novel was more of a romance than action. A lot of time, 3 chapters, was devoted to love scenes. Nothing inappropriate, mind you, but it was painfully slow during those chapters. The story was okay, just a little too romancey for my liking. Narration was good.

Love Story of the ages.

A Great story where good triumphantly over comes evil.

too romantic,average story, great reader

(3 stars)

the story is not bad but i have to agree with some previous reviews that it's too romantic n too long winded.. to much of unnecessary (n repeated) descriptions of the girl almost in every chapter added with the slow style narrative (he did a great job though,i actually like it but for this story,it just doesn't work well i think). of all the mystery stories i listened to this one has the most kissing scene😂
