The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (version 2)
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Read by Ruth Golding

A collection of twelve short stories featuring Conan Doyle's legendary detective, originally published as single stories in Strand Magazine and subsequently collected into a single volume.
There is not always a crime committed nor a culprit to find, and when there is, Holmes does not invariably get his man. However, his extraordinary powers of deduction generally solve the mystery, often to the discomfiture of the official police force. Holmes is a man of many facets, and I do not share the common perception of Holmes as cold and humourless: his sense of fun can be sparkling, and there are moments of rare pathos. Love this narrator’s pleasant voice and she does an excellent job using voice color to create the different characters. Some narrators are rather harsh and “ sing songy”. This is Conan Doyle read with true acting ability
outstanding narration

My first LibriVox listen and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ruth Golding's narration was phenomenal. Will definitely check out others she has read. Thanks to all involved for this entertaining and engaging audiobook.

This reader is wonderful! Just a delight to listen to. So, even if you're not a Sherlock Holmes fan (which I very much am) definitely give this one a listen.
Classic and Quality

About a dozen short Sherlock cases each broken into two parts. These are wonderfully read and typical of Sherlock genius.

this was my introduction to audiobooks. i found it very lovely, the slow pace makes it easy to follow while doing something else. the only thing i didn't like was how the narrator did the woman's voices, as it was very high pitched, but aside from that i really enjoyed the variety of accents and intonations she injected in the story.

The stories were great, of course. Ruth Golding has the perfect voice and one of the best conceptualizations of the writer’s vision of each character in each story I have ever heard. As she read and gave each their proper voice I could envision them as though watching a well cast play, or film. Bravo Ms. Golding.

Ruth Golding is an excellent storyteller, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's works are always a delight to peruse. I find myself coming back every once in a while, to enjoy the camaraderie of Holmes and Watson. An excellent collection of iconic tales.
