The Idiot

Read by Gregg Margarite (1957-2012)

(4.4 stars; 167 reviews)

The Idiot is anything but, yet his fellow boarders at Mrs. Smithers-Pedagog’s home for single gentlemen see him as such. His brand of creative thought is dismissed as foolishness yet it continues to get under their skin, because when you’re beneath contempt you can say what you please. – This is the first of John Kendrick Bang’s “Idiot” books and was published by Harper and Brothers in 1895. I really enjoy all of John K. Bangs books and really enjoyed all three books about the Idiot. The above summary says it all about the story line. The idiot is as madding as always and drives everyone else mad as well. Good job of reading thanks.

Wonderful story

This is yet another work of John Kendrick Banks that has left me smiling warmly and wanting more. The narration was, of course, perfect.

Good story, not as enthused about it tho

Good piece of satire, and nice ending. I would have liked a few more laughs, but overall this is still worth a listen. Greg M is an excellent reader, thank you for another good read. Oct-15-2014 - Listened to it again, just because. You have to pay attention if you want to get the sly jokes.

Well mr idiot is certainly no idea; language used in the literal sense: he would certainly be a little annoying to know in real like but fun to read; my 4th Bang book with Toppletons client being my favourite so far; my first book by this reader and will seek out more

Love it!

This story is great from beginning to end. I even enjoyed that everybody went by title (like the Idiot) and not really any names. Once you realize the type of idiot, it sorta makes you want to think like an idiot, too.

At first the reader's voice kinda put me off this. It's kind of like a deep voice, that sounded almost flat & robotic, but after the first chapter their voice grew on me much like the Idiot on his housemates.

I liked it.

It was good and funny but that voice was unbearable. It was nasal and deep which made it worse. Took off one star because of that. Good storyline and lots of humor. Just thst voice. Ugh.

Excellent!

I need say no more but I will. The writing and the reading are flawless. Best I've heard so far and I've listened to a lot!
