The Jungle Book

Read by Meredith Hughes

(4.6 stars; 1035 reviews)

This classic children's book by Rudyard Kipling tells the story of Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves: his escapades and adventures with his dear friends Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear, his capture by the Monkey-People, his attempt at reintegration into human society, and his ultimate triumph over the lame tiger Shere Khan. The account of Mowgli's adventures is followed by several short stories, including the tales of the brave white seal, Kotick, and the tenacious mongoose, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Packed with adventure and Jungle Law wisdom, this book has pervaded popular culture as the basis of many film and stage adaptations, including the popular Disney movie, and through its adoption as a motivational book by the Cub Scouts. NOT JUST A BOOK FOR CHILDREN

(4.5 stars)

Though formally classified as a children's book, adults can enjoy it also, albeit in a different plane. It is like the cartoons that were shown at the movie theaters--kids enjoyed them, but they were just as appealing to adultd. Meredith Hughes did a fine job; she maintained a hearable volume anf enunciated well.

Jungle Book

(5 stars)

Excellent enunciation & inflection in spite of strange words. Even & consistant volume levels all made for pleasurable listening experience. (Technical: Missing conclusion to mongoose story. Some overhead aircraft & other background noise heard, but not objectionable.)

A worthy listen

A good story, that is definitely worth a listen. Mostly the recording is of general good quality, but some mispronunciation at various parts lead me to rate it down (e.g., Shiva). I was following along with the book so I knew what was meant, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Love it!!!!!

My 9-year-old read this book recently and I re-read it for the first time in years. He enjoyed it so much and decided to do a school project about it. I love that this classic is still fun and interesting to the new generation.
