Excuse Me! (Dramatic Reading)

What happens when a mix of lovers get stuck together on a coast-to-coast train? Mainly hilarity. There is every kind of couple imaginable. One serviceman and his bride-to-be are trying desperately to get married but can't find a clergyman to perform the rites. They don't know that right in their midst is a preacher disguised as a man of the world so he and his wife can enjoy a carefree vacation. Then there is a drunk mourning his separation from the wife who just happens to be on the same train. There is even a confirmed bachelor who discovers that a confirmed spinster is his long-lost love from years ago. How these lives intertwine makes up the plot of this rollicking comedy. The piece contains racial slurs, which, although acceptable in the time and place of the story's setting, may offend modern listeners. (Summary by Bill Boerst)

Fun story, mediocre readings

(2 stars)

Fun story, but some of the readers seemed to read their lines in a vacuum. Lines that the narrator says were "growled furiously" were said as flippantly as if there were no direction as to tone. Many of the readers DID do well; it was just spoiled for me by those who didn't. There were two character lines missing - one in chapter 40, and one in an earlier chapter that I didn't note the chapter number. I can understand the big undertaking of this project, with so many characters and lines. It's a shame the finished project didn't seem to reflect the effort that went into it.

More Good Medicine

Laughter is the best medicine I have ever taken, and thank you Librivox volunteers for bringing us more of it in your excellent reading of this dramatic work. This was a great presentation and I hope it will be read and enjoyed by many others. It was also interesting from the point of view of our changing values in the past 100 years. For better or for worse (I think for worse) we don't seem to look at marriage as seriously now as we did back then. God bless Librivox.

hilarious train ride!

the readers do a fantastic job! the whining bride-to-be, the drunk, the porter. what a cast of characters! i can see this easily being made into a wonderful stage play!

nice audiobook
