So...the US FDA will come down on you--hard--if you try some of these recipes in the liquor and druggist chapters. If it calls for lead or mercury, well, I just wonder how some of our ancestors survived long enough to have descendants. Still, it certainly is interesting reading, and valuable detail for History buffs.
