1964 Newbery Medal winner, It's Like This, Cat is the story of a young man, Dave Mitchell, and how he grew to maturity, helped along indirectly by a stray cat that he brought home from Crazy Kate, the neighborhood Cat Lady. Dave lives in New York City with his lawyer father and his mother, who has bouts of asthma brought on by family strife. The cat, named "Cat" lives a wild life that brings Dave in contact with a future friend and girl friend. Dave's adventures take him throughout areas of New York City, and the reader is treated to descriptions of famous city landmarks. Wonderful

(5 Sterne)

A believable slice of life about a 14 year old boy, his cat, and other goings on. Nicely read. I positively inhaled the book and am disappointed it is over.

I highly recommend! Fun book, easy to follow, easy to keep the characters straight, not a bit preachy. As you listen, everyone comes to life in such a way that they feel familiar, regular people, not perfect but just living their lives. I wish there were a sequel! The reader does a fine job, enjoyable to listen to. Another reviewer mentioned skipping; it was brief and I didn’t find it to be a problem.

One of my favorite childhood books!

One of my favorite childhood books! A real trip down memory lane as my son is now the same age as the main character! Well narrated and thoroughly enjoyable!

A Gentle Story

(4 Sterne)

A nostalgic look at being a young teenage kid in New York City in the middle of the 20th century. Including a sweet story line. Good bedtime listening.
