This is a story of an innocent, caring, beautiful young girl from and extremely poor family who throughout her life is drawn into affairs with two different men from a much higher social class. How members of her family, the family of one of the wealthy men, and society in general react to her situation is the basis of this story. (Summary by Richard Kilmer) (14 hr 42 min)

Well read as usual by Mr. Kilmer. Story line is intriguing and the question of love vs. society's norms vs. money, power and prestige is faithfully examined. Very enjoyable read.
Interesting and Thought provoking

Did this guy really say Penelope instead of panoply? Also, learn how to say reticent, not ‘recitant’. There are free dictionaries with pronunciation guides and even audio. I assume that Richard Kilmer is proud of his reading or desirous of improving because he reads so many of these books and it must take a lot of time. Please read reviews and make the effort to learn to pronounce these words that you seem to be unaware you are getting wrong. Richard’s voice quality is so great but the repeating mispronunciations are frustrating. Book is ok. I prefer a good story to this analyzation of social issues and demoralization.
