This is a powerful and short account of physical, legal and moral struggles for freedom from enslavement. The author’s descriptions of her experiences and out-of-body emotions during her trial for freedom make this narrative especially compelling and timeless. Although the author is a woman and this is a woman’s story of mothers, daughters, and wives, you will hear it through a man’s voice. Nevertheless, James K. White is an excellent reader, and you can’t go wrong with anything he has read on LibriVox!

Wonderful book. Unfortunately, James K White, the reader, annoyingly interjects his name at the beginning and end of each chapter. This is distracting and disingenuous
