Peter Simple

Peter Simple, 'the fool of the family', son of a parson but heir presumptive to a title, goes to sea as midshipman during the Napoleonic wars. Naturally, at sea in this period is where adventures are just waiting for a lad like Peter, and so he does stumble from one into the next. Of particular note is also the colourful group of supporting characters he meets on board and on shore. - Summary by Carolin (16 hr 12 min)

Reviews

peter simple is simply wonderful, UNTILL it's not

(5 stars)

wonderfully written and delightfully read (at least thru 41 chapters.) after that's it's all downhill, with chapters 47 thru 54 impossible to listen to. Sorry to criticize a volunteer's work, but one must know their limits. 5 stars for chapters 1-41

Bravo from Borneo

Another delightful and utterly engrossing tale from Frederick Marryat. As always with this author there were a wide range of characters presented and very well developed. I'm not a fan of multiple narrators...but those that read were tolerable. Great story.

fantastic

(5 stars)

what can I say, the book was just fantastic. most of the book is read by one lady then last 20 or so chapters by maybe 5 diff readers. some I didn't care for but it didn't effect the story any

Worth a listen for sure

(4 stars)

A light enjoyable, tale with better narration in the first half than the second but since everyone volunteered their services I am grateful to have heard this story.

(3.5 stars)

Fun book, not too exciting tho. Tales of a sailor. The lady having narrated the first 38 chapters did a great job, from then on I did not really enjoy it anymore.

Great story!

Wow, amazing story that is never boring reaching a satisfying end. Multiple readers some of lesser quality but the story pulls you through. Will listen to again.

I like the memoir style and short chapter structure- gets a nice personal feel to adventure and let’s in a wide range of mischief

a really enjoyable story well read for the part .
